IP: degree of protection against access to dangerous parts and the ingress of foreign solids - degree of water penetration.
IK: degree of resistance of materials to mechanical shocks
The IP and IK tests are used to classify products according to their resistance to intrusion of solid and foreign bodies or penetration of liquid or dust.
The Emitech Group has the necessary test facilities to determine the IP and IK protection classes.
The assessment will determine the degree of protection in relation to the damage (accumulation of water or dust on sensitive parts) affecting the operation and safety of persons or equipment.
The IP tests are usually inseparable from the qualification of products, but they are also required in the phases of tests leading to the certification of equipment (CE marking, worlwide markets,...). For example, the safety of electrical equipment requires checking that access to potentially dangerous areas for its user is not accessible (e.g. finger tests).
IP code is also e selling point. Certain manufacturers are now keen to publicise the IP code of their smartphones.
IP code is characterized by two digits. The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts (e.g., electrical conductors, moving parts) and the ingress of solid foreign objects (0 to 6). The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against harmful ingress of water. (0 to 8).
If no requirement is specified in any of these fields, the letter X replaces the corresponding number.
